Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason performance since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
